KRYPTOS K4 (part 4): BERLIN CLOCK, KRYPTOS & A COMPASS ROSE

Hello from Spain

NEW CLUE
“Finally, a New Clue to Solve the CIA’s Mysterious Kryptos Sculpture”

http://www.wired.com/2014/11/second-kryptos-clue/

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/21/us/another-kryptos-clue-is-offered-in-a-24-year-old-mystery-at-the-cia.html?_r=0

The six letters that spell “Berlin”—NYPVTT—-are the 64th through 69th letters of the final 97 characters and the new clue “clock” are deciphered from the next five letters that follow it.

This means that the letters from positions 64 to 74 spell out two words: “Berlin clock.”

When asked whether his new clue was a reference to this Berlin clock, Mr. Sanborn, sounding pleased, said, “There are several really interesting clocks in Berlin.”

He added, “You’d better delve into that particular clock,” a favorite of conspiracy theorists because of the mysterious death in 1991 of its designer, Dieter Binninger. With all the intriguing timekeepers in the city, including the “Clock of Flowing Time,” Mr. Sanborn said, “There’s a lot of fodder there.”

So, obviously I’m wrong.

It was a very nice solution possible but the circumstances have changed

NEW PLACE WTH A CLOCK

Berlin — Have you been there?

A strange clock of Berlin and Kryptos, the CIA sculpture have something in common in their base: A compass rose engraved

At the same time as the main sculpture was installed, sculptor Jim Sanborn also placed several other pieces around CIA grounds, such as several large granite slabs with sandwiched copper sheets outside the entrance to the New Headquarters Building. Several morse code messages are engraved in the copper, and one of the slabs has an engraved compass rose and a lodestone. Other elements of Sanborn’s installation include a landscaped area, a duck pond, a reflecting pool, and several other seemingly unmarked slabs.

The World Clock “Urania” located on the famous Alexanderplatz is one of the most visited places of cosmopolitan Berlin. Located in the city center and meeting point for tourists, friends, lovers or protesters, is as popular as Alex itself.

The structure of cement and aluminum measuring total 10 meters high. The lower column measuring 2.7 meters and has a width of 1.5 meters. It stands on a compass rose shaped stone mosaic (shown in the picture, notice his base of the spine).

Is this just a coincidence?

I have not visited Berlin and I have no better picture.
Is it true that there is a compass Rose?

This seems like the search for treasure
To search where is the x, or in this case looking where is the compass rose.

Bye from Spain.

Addenda December 18, 2014. MUSIC AND THE BERLIN CLOCK

+ The video for the song, shot at the World Clock in Alexanderplatz Berlin, features an early appearance by Jason Statham as a silver-painted background dancer. “Run to the Sun” is a song by British synthpop duo Erasure, released as the second single from their sixth studio album “I Say I Say I Say” (1994).

If “berlinclock” is THE plaintext break then we can to start from the end, by the peculiarities of the text unveiled & coded at the same time.

THE FOUR MESSAGE (K4) OF KRYPTOS

+ The fourth coded message has yet to be solved. It is the hardest, arguably, because it is the shortest of the four messages, containing only 97 characters, so it is harder to find patterns. Recently, Sanborn revealed a clue to the New York Times:

«The characters that are the 64th through 69th in the final series on the sculpture read NYPVTT. When deciphered, they read BERLIN.»

K4 = «OBKRUOXOGHULBSOLIFBBWFLRVQQPRNGKSSOTWTQSJQSS

EKZZWATJKLUDIAWINFB NYPVTT MZFPKWGDKZXTJCDIGKUHUAUEKCAR»

Though 6 doubled letters (BB QQ SS SS ZZ TT) is slightly above chance for a 97 character text, that’s not hellishly improbable but If NYPVTT = BERLIN, this means … T= I but also T= N

I seriously think this is important. The same letters in sequence, representing different letters.

I suppose that when a digraph appears there is a change in the encryption, some type of asymmetry happens

+ The K4 is divided into the following groups, thus

OBKRUOXOGHULBSOLIFB
-BWFLRVQ
-QPRNGKS
-SOTWTQSJQS
-SEKZ
-ZWATJKLUDIAWINFBNYPVT
-TMZFPKWGDKZXTJCDIGKUHUAUEKCAR

Maybe some kind of function f(x)?

EEC ?

+ The Elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) is an approach to public-key cryptography based on the algebraic structure of elliptic curves over finite fields. An elliptic curve cryptosystem is an asymmetric cryptosystem relying on the hardness of the discrete logarithm problem in elliptic curve groups.

In mathematics, an elliptic curve (EC) is a smooth, projective algebraic curve of genus one, on which there is a specified point O. An elliptic curve is in fact an abelian variety – that is, it has a multiplication defined algebraically, with respect to which it is a (necessarily commutative) group – and O serves as the identity element. Often the curve itself, without O specified, is called an elliptic curve.

Any elliptic curve can be written as a plane algebraic curve defined by an equation of the form:

y^2 = x^3 + ax + b

The
figure show a simply elliptic curve.

BY THE WAY

I suggest that K4 solution is based in the place of BERLIN:

“PEOPLE TO CREATE A SAFER  FREER WORLD AND SURELY THERE IS NO BETTER PLACE THAN BERLIN THE MEETING PLACE  OF EAST AND WEST”

Barcelona November 02, 2014.

Bye

Hello from SPAIN

+  Jim Gillogly, a Southern California computer scientist, who resolved k1, k2, and k3 said “There were no written rules in this contest”, and adding: “As far as I’m concerned a crack is where you find it. The choice of tool isn’t the important part, but rather the decisions about how to use the tools.”

+ Now trying to check my theory. I’ve been to the web site of Kryptos sculptor Mr Seaborn:
http://kryptosclue.com/clue/clue.html

+ THe first thing I did. I wrote “peopletocr” according to my solution “clean” (I copied a fragment of a speech of Ronald Reagan in front of Berlin Wall)

I did not get a positive response.

…..but in the kryptos text K4 may be some cryptographic mistake voluntary or involuntary (or the web site is broken).

+ I continue looking to verify this solution.

Maybe you can find out the cipher or code used.

REMEMBER

I suggest that K4 solution is based in the place of BERLIN:

«PEOPLE TO CREATE A SAFER  FREER WORLD AND SURELY THERE IS NO BETTER PLACE THAN BERLIN THE MEETING PLACE  OF EAST AND WEST»

(97 characters, NO MORE, NO LESS)

SO, if K 3 has a question: ” …… can you see anythyngq?“. (The account of Howard Carter, the renowned Egyptologist, as he opened King Tut’s tomb.)

THEN … K 4 has an answer “ People to create a safer, freer world ……..” (a fragment of a speech of Ronald Reagan in front of Berlin Wall)

1 INTRODUCTION
2 FIRST ATTEMPT  + 2013 + Clue: «berlin»
3 SECOND ATTEMPT +2014 + New Clue: «berlinclue»

1 KRIPTOS

+ “Kryptos,” the sculpture nestled in a courtyard of the CIA Virginia headquarters since 1990, is a work of art with a secret code embedded in the letters that are punched into its four panels of curving copper — the name, in Greek, means “hidden” —.  The broad principles it provided for the $250,000 commission included the notion that it should “engender feelings of well-being, hope.”

The code breakers have had some success. Three of the 4 puzzles, 768 characters long, were solved by 1999, revealing passages — one lyrical, one obscure and one taken from history. But the fourth message (K4) of “Kryptos” has resisted the best efforts of brains and computres.

2 FIRST ATTEMPT  + 2013 + Clue: «berlin»
THE K4 SOLUTION IS……

1rst+ IF  It will be the first clue Sanborn has revealed in four years, after he corrected a typo in his sculpture in 2006 to keep crypto detectives from being derailed in their search for solutions.

Sanborn wouldn’t disclose the clue to Threat Level but said only cryptically that it will “GLOBALIZE” the sculpture. Asked if this meant it would take the sculpture off the CIA grounds and out of the United States, he conceded it would. “I personally think it’s a significant clue,” he said. “I’m throwing it out there. It just makes that many fewer characters people have to figure out.”
MORE http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2006/04/70701

2+  If Mr. Sanborn  has provided To the New York Times with the answers to six letters in the sculpture’s final passage:  The characters that are the 64th through 69th in the final series on the sculpture read NYPVTT. When deciphered, they read BERLIN.MORE: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/11/20/us/code.html?ref=us&_r=1&

+ THEN these requirements are fulfilled in this way:

O    B     K    R    U   O    X   O   G   H           U    L    B    S     O    L    I    F    B    B

So, Seaborn sculpted a small fragment of one of the most important speeches of Ronald Reagan (and «GLOBALIZE» the sculpture) :

—Ronald Reagan, address at the Brandenburg Gate, June 12, 1987.
LOOK http://www.historyplace.com/speeches/reagan-tear-down.htm

THIS:

He said:
«Today, thus, represents a moment of hope …….PEOPLE TO CREATE A SAFER, FREER WORLD AND SURELY THERE IS NO BETTER PLACE THAN BERLIN THE MEETING PLACE OF EAST AND WEST, to make a start.»

SO, if K 3 has a question: » ……  can you see anythyngq?«. (The account of Howard Carter, the renowned Egyptologist, as he opened King Tut’s tomb.)

THEN … K 4 has an answer  »  People to create a safer, freer world ……..» (a fragment of a speech  of Ronald reagan in front of Berlin Wall)

K 1 abd K 2 are original texts  …… but K3  and K4 are passages copied. And so the author gets a text that represents the original motive of artistic work, the notion that it should “engender feelings of well-being, hope.”

NOTE: Solution based on the place where it positioned the word «Berlin». I do not know the encryption system, only the final text.

Bye from Spain.

3 SECOND ATTEMPT +2014 + New Clue: «berlinclue»

NEWS

Sculptor Jim Sanborn gave the New York Times a second clue to deciphering the message inside the last panel of his sculpture located outside the C.I.A Headquarters in Virginia.

Now, the characters from the 64th through the 74th positions of the fourth panel say «Berlin clock.»

When asked whether his new clue was a reference to this Berlin clock, Mr. Sanborn, sounding pleased, said, “There are several really interesting clocks in Berlin.”

He added, “You’d better delve into that particular clock,”

SOURCE http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/21/us/another-kryptos-clue-is-offered-in-a-24-year-old-mystery-at-the-cia.html?_r=1

SOLUTION
If the clock is the clue, you must find a clock to resolve problems, like this:

“The Clock Cryptograph” is basically a nicely implemented Wheatstone cipher disk.
It was in active use in the Danish armed forces from 1934 (or a little earlier) until around 1948.

Hello from Spain:

– In my humble opinion based on Edgar Allan Poe´s short story “the gold bug”,  first we must look for the signature where habitually someone puts the signature as the caracther of William Legrand did whith the note of captain Kidd.

– Look the last word of the last line of the 2nd note:

“XORLX” a letter repeats itself; and remember “Mccormick”, a letter repeats itself too.

If “X”= variations of the letter «C» (like this MC, C and CK) something usually in Shorthand systems.
if “O»=»O»

if «R”=»R»
if “L”=M, he uses the code Cesar b or +1

if we add the vowel (i) as transcript shorthand solution.

Then “XORLX” is possibly “MCCORM(i)CK”.

+ If we apply this knowledge to the last line of the second note this it must mean:
“O-W-m-4 H8L XORLX” is “OWN-for I AM Mccormick”.

“O-W”= OW
“-m” = N, he uses the code cesar +1
-4= four= for (phonetic solution) and the hyphen join the letters and words.
“H”= I, he uses the code cesar +1.
8= eit (phonetic)= ei (phonetic a)= A.
“L”= M, he uses the code cesar +1.

… and the hyphen join the letters in a word.
etc… the 2nd note seems a testament or last will.

If we apply this knowledge to the last line of the 1st note this it must mean:

“(i 94 WLD´S n CBE)….(TRFXL)” is possibly  means ( i 1994 would is and had been……terrifying came):

+ “i”= i.
+ 94= date 1994.
+ “WLD´S”= would is (shorthand)
+“n”= and (shorthand).
+ C=D, he uses the code cesar +1,by shorthand and verb contraction can be WOULD, HAD and DO ( verb to do).
+ “BE”= B(e)E= been (phonetic solution)
+ “TRF”= Terrify or terrifying (shorthand).
+“XL”= Come or Came, look the Codename “XORLX” explanation.etc.

– The 1st note seems as he remember his life because from August 1993 until July 1994 he was in prison and this was terrifying for him.

Finally, you can accept that the group of letters “WLD” means “would” and the letter “D” has different form: Not “D” in “O-W-m-4″ or “XORLX”…the outine is incomplete or stand out in the low part, see “D” in 4 line, 4 letter, of 2nd note or 6 line,
5 letter, of 1st note.

The 2 notes must be encrypted and shorted

– This is a STENOGRAPHIC problem with come measures of deception (code Caesar B, signs, space between words …)

Now no one reads the works of Poe?.

Bye from Spain.
